ROB                                                                                     October 2004

1  What instruments do you play?
Guitar, bass, hand drums, ukulele, my own vocal chords, berimbau and the recorder (!!!!!).
(A berimbau, for those who’ve never come across one, only has one string that
you hit  with a stick so could technically be played by anyone.)

2   What instruments would you like to be able to play?
Most instruments.  Especially the violin, saxophone and gamelan.
I’d like to be able to sing as well.

3  What made you decide to become a musician?
Music……………and Bob.

4  What was the first album you bought?
Experience Hendrix – the best of Jimi Hendrix.  Probably still my favourite CD

5  No honestly?
OK, well maybe Mr Blobby, destiny music.  I was young, come on it wasn’t my fault.

6  What was the last album you bought?
The last CD I  bought  was probably Friday night in San Francisco with Al Di Meola,
John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia  which is amazing.

7  The first single?
Do not insult me!

8  What’s in your CD player?
A CD titled ‘Shpongle’.

9  Which musicians inspire you/
Loads.  Compay Segundo (R.I.P) and Chris Ellis my music teacher.

10  Who (real or imaginary) do you aspire to be like?
Anyone who’s still alive I suppose.  I don’t ask for much.

11  Which songs have helped you wake up in the morning?
I don’t listen to music to help me wake up.  It makes me feel like my brain is vibrating in my skull.

12  Which songs have helped you go to sleep?
‘Wake up’ by Rage.  Actually it’s usually Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry or Tinariwen.

13  What do you sing in the shower?
The music from ‘Psycho’.

14  Favourite books?
‘Betty’s Bubblebath Bonanza’- oh…..no that’s not a book.  Catch 22 and anything by Iain M. Banks.

15  Favourite films?
‘The Life of Brian’ and ‘Withnal and I’.

16  Classic TV?
Boobah!  But I’m probably a bit old for that.

17  Most importantly, favourite pizza topping?
Olives.

18  Where would you ideally like to live?
In a big boat so I can easily move house.  Of course the boat has to be able to turn into a plane to go
inland and then into a really small plane so I can land in peoples gardens when I want to visit them.
If I can’t do that, I suppose I’ll have to just settle for the south of Spain.

19  Top albums of all time?
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts club band’ by the Beatles.  Chaos AD by Sepultura.  Buena Vista Social
Club obviously.

20  Favourite songs?
Chan chan, Son of a Preacher Man.

21  Any good advice?
Don’t jump off big walls.

22  Any good musical advice?
Don’t ask a musician for advice.
